About Power Measurement
Power is the rate at which energy is transferred or converted. The SI unit of power is the Watt (W), defined as one Joule per second. Power describes how quickly work is done or energy is used.
Common Power Units
Watt: The SI unit, used for electrical power and general physics calculations.
Horsepower: Commonly used for engines and motors. Mechanical HP (745.7 W) differs slightly from Metric HP (735.5 W).
BTU/hour: Used in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
Power vs Energy
Power and energy are related but different. Energy is the capacity to do work (measured in Joules or kWh), while power is the rate at which that energy is used (measured in Watts). For example, a 100 W light bulb uses 100 Joules of energy per second. If it runs for 10 hours, it consumes 1,000 Watt-hours (1 kWh) of energy.
